Open survey: Nature-based enterprises

January 17, 2024 | News

Are you an enterprise working with and for nature on nature-based solutions? Then we invite you to take part in Invest4Nature’s open survey !

We in Invest4Nature are seeking to understand the supply side of the nature-based solutions (NBS) market in Europe. This is key meeting the existing demand and achieving biodiversity net gain by 2030 through mainstreamed deployment of NBS.

Complete the survey before the 31st of January and win a chance for an all expenses paid trip to Dublin for the Nature Futures 2024 event!

Why should you complete the survey?

  • EU policymakers want to increase support for NBEs and the development of a flourishing NBS market! To do that, it’s crucial that you voice your needs and challenges.
  • The last survey in 2021 led to increased awareness and funding for NBEs among policy makers at city and EU level
  • By attending Nature Futures 2024, you have the change to hear the interim results of the survey and engage with key stakeholders in attendance

Not sure if you represent a nature-based enterprise ?

‘Nature-based enterprise’ is an umbrella term for the private and third sector businesses and organisations working with and for nature in the delivery of nature-based solutions.

NBEs are ‘NBS providers’ and skilled or professional experts with experience in the design, delivery and ongoing management of nature-based solutions. They are the supply side of NBS that work in partnership with public and private sector organisations which can be considered the demand side of nature-based solutions. These businesses can fall into the following sub-sectors of NBS:

  • Water Management
Water Management Consultants/Engineers who prioritise nature positive outcomes, specialists in constructed wetlands, SUDS, rain gardens, ecosystem restoration, etc.
Examples: IRIDRA in Italy, FH Wetland Systems in Ireland.
  • Regenerative Agriculture
Farmers work with nature but not all farming practices work for nature. Those practising regenerative agriculture ‘work with and for nature’
Examples: De Biesterhof in The Netherlands, Poultree in Spain.
  • Regenerative Forestry
Businesses/Orgs. that have a net positive impact on nature & biodiversity, whether via sustainable use & management practices, ecosystem restoration or afforestation.
Examples: Hometree in Ireland, Trees for Life in Scotland.
  • Urban NbS & Green Buildings
Landscape architects, ecologists, green wall/roof experts, etc. working towards the protection, conservation & restoration of nature & biodiversity in the urban context.
Examples: Helix Pflanzensysteme in Germany, Scotscape in the UK.
  • Coastal & Marine NbS
Organisations & businesses involved in habitat protection & restoration from seagrass to mangroves, sand dunes or regenerative aquaculture practices.
Examples: RedRose Developments in Ireland; Car y Mor in Wales.
  • Related Sectors – From Regenerative Tourism to Smart Tech
NBEs are as diverse as the habitats we serve. If a business/organisation contributes to a net gain for biodiversity and ‘works with and for nature’ it may be a relevant NBE
Examples: Treemania in the Netherlands, Knepp Wildland Safaris in the UK.
